I’m Cuckoo for Cranky Pants

I’ve been trying to get a hold of a pair of Crankypants to review ever since the very first time I stumbled across them while surfing the web about a year ago. To be honest, I became a little obsessed with seeing them first hand. So much so that I literally chased down a mom at the Baby Celebration LA conference last spring. I saw a flash of monster tooth on her child’s cute little butt and it was more exciting to me than a celebrity sighting. I had to get a closer look.
Read on to get the full scoop on these adorable pants and a chance to win your own!

crankymonster280.jpgI guess I made an impression on that mom, because when I spoke to designer/owner/brilliant-mom-with-creative-vision Amy Kett, she said “Oh yeah, I heard about you from my customer”. Hmmm. It’s a fine line though between product aficionado and product stalker. These pants might easily have pushed me over the edge!
As I type this, I am gratified to tell you that I have a pair of Crankypants in my hot little hands and guess what? They’re worth the wait! They live up to the hype! They don’t make me feel cranky at all. They make me feel quite happy actually. What could be more smile-worthy, than watching your little one wiggling away with a hand-knit, snaggle toothed monster adorning their bum?
Crankypants are knit from soft merino wool. They were previously only available in extremely limited quantities, due to the very sad fact that there were only so many pairs of pants that Amy could knit. I’m sure her fans have had fantasies about locking Amy up in the attic with the vague promise of ice cream rewards, or perhaps cloning her (instead of some silly wooly sheep). All so she could knit more and more Crankypants. Really, people, the woman has a kid of her own to care for! Fortunately the lockdown/cloning will not be necessary. Very soon Crankypants will be more readily available and Amy might even get a break. Although I doubt she’ll rest for long. She’s already cranking out some adorable matching monster bibs!
Amy has enlisted the help of other hand knitting moms living in South America, to assist her on her baby-cutification project. She searched far and wide, long and hard to arrange for a responsible and truly fair trade arrangement that could bring more of these pants to you. So you can not only feel good about getting a pair but also about knowing that the job of knitting these pants helps these other moms do something they love, and stay home with their families.
I waited a year for my close encounter with Crankypants but one of you won’t have to wait that long. Mommies with Style has one pair of Crankypants to give away to a lucky reader. Just leave a comment below telling us your favorite “term of endearment” for your child when he/she is fussing (no obscenties please!) and you will be entered to win one pair of these beauties in a size 6/12 months, as modeled by my own Mr FussyMcFusserpants.
One lucky winner will be chosen at random on Friday the 12th of September.
Note: Please be sure to check your email in a timely fashion as we will move on to another address if there is no response in 72 hrs. And you’d be cranky to see you missed out!

  1. We call our little one “Funky Britches”. He struts around in a funk when he doesn’t get his way, lol!
When he’s really having a meltdown day, it’s:
    Vicious Britches, or
    Impish Britches.
For those days when he wants everything his way or the highway, we call him:
    “Divo”, our male diva. 🙂
Still makes us smile even when he’s cranky. 🙂

  2. We call our little guy “Rudy” like in the movie Rudy… when he gets fussy and determined cause he’ll stop at nothing and plow through anything to get what he’s after!!

  3. Clearly having four kids has sucked all the creativity right outta me. The baby is simply Fussy Girl when she’s cranky – lol. I know! How lame is that? I hope I win though, it’s my birthday on Friday!

  4. LOVE your blog. What a great read! Now i have anothe rto add ot my daily to do read 🙂
Oh and teh crabby kids in our house go by Crabby Abby. Boy or girl. We even have stories made up to get them out of the crabby abby mood. Basically we just tell a littel once upon a time story of a kid named crabby abby who happens to be in whatever meltdown situation teh kiddo is currently in. Usually Crabby Abby’s mom gives a big hug and kiss (and soemtimes icecream) to get Crabby Abby to stop, and turn back into the real kiddo. They love it and its’ a nicer expression than some i’m heard peopel use.

  5. My favorite term of endearment for fussy kiddos is: crosspatch. “Don’t be such a crosspatch!” It makes me smile to say it, and my kiddos think it’s hilarious. 🙂

  6. We love Crankypants but haven’t ever been able to score a pair. They are the PERFECT cloth diaper cover!! Wool is amazing for that.
Oh and we call our cranky son, Trouble U. I have no idea why, lol.

  7. I have 3 names, depending on the grade of disaster our little tiny terrorist creates. Laugh.
Joohnie-poponie, bugger butt and stinky blinky. When he is in realy trouble I call him Mr. first name, middle name and last name.

  8. Lately we have be affectionately refering to my daughter as “Goob” which is short for “Goober”, as she seems to have hit the terrible 2’s at 16 months.

  9. OOohhh I want in!
I always refer to my DD when she is cranky as ugly princess because when she cries she makes an ugly face and I always tell her she is the most beautiful girl in the world and no one likes a fussy/crying princess!

  10. We call our son cranky pants too! I cracked up the first time I saw that there actually were crankypants! We must have some!

  11. We call my youngest son the fussanator, after the terminator.
    My older son is fussnick.
My daughter is called the crank. 🙂 We are not very original.

  12. Love the crankies!
I call my three year old girl (drama queen) a whiny wild woman when she is having a three year old moment and when the baby, my son, is fussy I call him fussy butt or stinky butt 😉

  13. Thanks for the contest. These are super cute and I would love to win a pair!
I have a couple of names I use, but one I say a lot is fussfudget. The actual word is fussbudget, but it just always comes out as fussfudget instead when I say it. I also sing a song to my LO sometimes. It goes to the “Dance in Smarty Pants” tune from the PBS show Between the Lions. My version goes “Oh, Ah, dance in fussy pants.”

  14. We call our 8.5 month old Pterodactyl Baby, because that is exactly what his high, piercing shriek sounds like. LOL!
I have never been able to try Crankypants, so it would be awesome if I won! *fingers crossed*

  15. I call my little one stinker, the hungry burrito, and Brynnie Brynn Brynn Brynn Brynn. My older son, 6 years, is The Boy, Diva, pooder booder, little mouse, and stink face.

  16. My daughter’s name is Makenna and when she’s having an “off” moment I usually say she’s having a “Mak Attack”! lol

  17. I usually say…well aren’t we just a little sassypants today? or sassy sissy (we all call dd sissy girl). I call my niece whos name is Adeline crabby Addy when she is mad and it always makes me chuckle inside.

  18. I call my son Bumby or Bummdidilly when he is cranky sometimes. But his most used (as much as his name is used) is Bubby. I started calling him that when I would try to say baby and buddy at the same time when I got up with him at night. 🙂

  19. We call our son “Mr. Stinky” a lot. But when he’s misbehaving, it’s usually “no, sir!” or we call him by his full name 🙂
