Mommy Needs a Keurig! And not just for Coffee!

I need a bumpersticker that says “Mom… brought to you by coffee”
Seriously, I’ve tried to kick the habit, but it’s not happening. I have too much affection for my morning cuppa. Unfortunately for me, the preferred morning cuppa is an Americano that comes from the local coffee shop. Expensivano. Time for a Keurig intervention!
My husband and I don’t like the same home brew coffees. Every time we buy a regular coffee maker, the coffee wars begin. Good intentions fall by the wayside and before you know it, we’re back in line at the bistro. It’s annoying that we end up wasting more coffee than we drink when we brew our his & hers pots at home. This is not an issue with Keurig. Every single cup is brewed seperately. You can also adjust the strength of your chosen brew adjusting the amount of water you use (his – stronger, mine – weaker). Whatever your favorite kind of coffee is, there is a Keurig K cup for you. Flavored, decaf, strong, mild, you name it. If you are determined to DIY, there is a Keurig accessory that lets you use your own fresh grind.
Condidering all the positive buzz I had heard about Keurig, I was not surprised to find that I loved it for making myself a cup of morning salvation. What I was surprised to find was that it was not just about MY morning coffee. It also makes fabulous cocoa, herbal tea and iced tea. My whole family is using the Keurig to make beverages. Chai Lattes even. Check out some of the Keurig recipes I found. One more unexpected use? You can run the Keurig without a K-Cup for instant soups and oatmeal. So while I do love the Keurig for my morning brew. I’m finding I love it for more than that too!

As if my coffee addiction is not bad enough, I have a particular weakness on hot afternoons for Lemonade iced tea from the local coffee shop. This actually costs more $ than my coffee issues. Here’s how I use my Keurig to brew a refreshing beverage that tastes almost the same and, thanks to the fresh lemon juice and agave syrup, is probably a lot healthier!

1. Assemble your supplies – Agave syrup, Celestial Seasonings English Breakfast Tea (or other preferred K Cup tea), lemon, lemon reamer, cup of crushed ice.
2. Put about one teaspoon of agave syrup in cup prior to brewing.
3. Brew tea on the “iced tea” setting.
4. Squeeze in lemon juice. Stir well.
5. Fill cup with crushed ice. Garnish with lemon or mint sprig, if desired.
6. Enjoy!

  1. I have always wanted one of these and Bed Bath and Beyond has value packs of them all the time. Target had the actual applianca on sale the other day dunno if they still do but cant hurt to check.

  2. Just gave one of these to my hubby for his birthday on Friday – he has been drinking his own quickly-brewed coffees nonstop ever since! This thing is WONDERFUL, and even for those of us who are not coffee drinkers, there are plenty of “perks:” hot cocoa, the tea selection, and no cleanup after a sometimes messy coffee grind hubby with traditional machines 🙂

  3. Ok so i stumbled upon your article from this other site that spoke about some diet solutions? Anyways, i took the time to read your article but i’m slightly confused… Either way, you’re a good writer and i wanted to take the effort to write a thank you! I’ve bookedmarked your site for future reference.
