Some women are confident enough to nurse in public, but I’m not one of them. If I’m in store or park, I prefer to cover up with a Hooter Hider/Bebe au Lait Nursing Cover. It’s the same company, the product has two different names.

I had owned one with baby #2 and given it away when she was done nursing, so I was so excited when Bebe au Lait recently sent me one of their new Hooter Hiders to review. I plan to use it with baby #3 and I absolutely adore the new design features! I checked out the Hooter Hider in Siena ($35). This 100% cotton cover, has a white background with a purple and green leaf pattern. I adore the feminine ruffle detail along the neckline and bottom of cover  and I know even if I am covered in baby spit up, I’ll be able to throw this on as a I nurse my son (and look glam!). Don’t worry — you’ll be able to easily see your baby, the rigid boning in the neckline allows for ventilation and eye contact with baby. The neck strap attaches to a d-ring and is easily adjustable. The nursing cover will easily fit it your diaper bag and can also be used shield baby from the sun, when in a infant car seat or stroller.

Why does the product have two different names? According to the company’s website, “For 2 years the company was called Hooter Hiders. However, as the business grew, owners Ronnie and Claire Ekelund, felt the company needed a more refined name: Bebe au Lait. The loyal following of Hooter Hider fans said, “It will always be the Hooter Hider to us!” For that reason, the Hooter Hider name was kept and now the same nursing covers sell under two brand names: Hooter Hiders for the tongue-in-cheek and Bebe au Lait for mommy chic.”

Bebe au Lait also makes Burp Cloths, Hooded Towels, Gift Sets, Double Reversible Bibs, Family Ties Jewelry, and Organics – an organic line of nursing covers.

Thank you to Bebe au Lait for providing a sample for review purposes.

  1. I had just learned about this product from a new mom (I’m 33 wks with my second) and quickly decided that I had to have one. I’m sure if I would have had one the first time around, things in that department would have gone much smoother. Here’s to better luck this time 🙂

  2. Good Luck Heidi – this is one of my favorite new mom items. We had thought we were done with having kids…but #3 is coming and I just knew I needed to have it on hand!

  3. I love my Hooter Hider/Bebe au Lait! I can nurse when I’m out and about and feel confident enough that no one will be getting a sneak peek.

  4. I’m 23 weeks pregnant with my second child. I looked at the website and it looks like it’s really big! Like the hider is really long and wide, like a mumu almost. To me that would seem to draw more attention than something smaller. What does it feel like having that big thing attached to you? Does it work easily in tight areas or confined spaces? It looks like it’d be a pain to deal with in a pinch with all that fabric going everywhere. Is it?

  5. Here’s a pic of mine. Pardon the messy kitchen.

  6. Darn, it’s not working right. You can PM on the message board and I can send you a pic of mine to help you decide.

  7. Nicole – I actually thought the amount of fabric was terrific. It covered more than enough, but not too much.

  8. Hey I like your blog post, I’d like to follow you on twitter, how can I contact you?

  10. I like this post, enjoyed this 1 regards for posting .

  11. Hooter hider is the world’s most popular patented nursing covers. These covers are lightweight and 100% made up of cotton with adjustable D-ring neck strap.

  12. Can someone suggest the best hooter hider? I do not want to get a simple and cheap one. I’m searching to spend up to $60 (would prefer to spend less also 😉
