In a post a few days ago, I revealed my latest organization secret to managing the clutter of motherhood – Evernote. From important emails to holiday gift ideas, work notes to beauty products to try, Evernote lets me keep all of my random bits information for work, life, house, friends and motherhood in one easily searchable place. But it gets even better when you pair Evernote with one of Fujitsu’s ScanSnap scanners.
I’ve been able to try out Fujitsu’s ScanSnap S1300i and am in the process of making my desk truly paper-free! The multi-page, dual-sided ScanSnap S1300i is super compact (about 11.5″ x 3.5″) and has a fast installation. Within minutes of opening the box, I was scanning documents, recipes and notes from my desk into Evernote and….(wait for it)…….tossing the paper away in the recycle bin! So freeing! So liberating! Now I can not only catalog information from websites, email and hand-typed notes, but from anything I can fit in the scanner.
Features I Love
– Straightens documents: Recipe a little cocky-wobble? Accidentally put that schedule in upside down? ScanSnap straightens skewed documents and makes sure they are all upright.
– Searchable scan: The documents I scan into Evernote are searchable – even hand-written notes! Perfect for finding my grandma’s cookie recipe among all the others.
– No size too small: From legal-size down to 2″ x 2″ scraps of paper, ScanSnap can handle it all.
Now the ScanSnap scanners are not only for use with Evernote (though they are conveniently set-up to). You can easily choose to scan into Word, Excel, an email, iPhoto, to a mobile device, GoogleDocs, DropBox, or a variety of other options.
This is a definitely a work in progress. Dealing with my recipes alone will take me some time to get them all scanned. But I am on my way to getting my desk clutter-free and maybe even some inner calm. That’s not too much to ask from a scanner, is it?
*BONUS* From now until November 1, 2012, buy any ScanSnap scanner and get a whole year of Evernote Premium for free! With Premium Evernote, you’ll get 1GB of monthly uploads, larger files, bigger notes, and a host of other features. Click here to see all the details and redeem your free year.
