April and May are going to be crazy for us. Business trips, a big First Communion party and a trip to Disney, I feel like I’m totally scrambling.
So when we woke up yesterday and saw that it was going to be a gorgeous day, I asked the kids what they wanted to do. Cole’s scheduled soccer game was cancelled due to some vandalism on his field (jerks!) so we had the whole day clear. The kids responded that they wanted to go hiking.
Hubby was the voice of reason, “shouldn’t we be working on house projects and getting stuff done?” He’s usually the one who is up for adventure but he was feeling the weight of everything we had to do.
We decided to compromise and go for a quick hike at a local trail recommended by my friend Colleen. We hiked up Mt. Misery at Valley Forge National Park in the perfect weather – it was mid 60s and boys will be boys: my guys had a blast playing in the woods as we hiked up.
After a painfully long winter, it was just refreshing. I snapped this next photo of my guys sitting on a fallen log. The funny part? This was NOT posed. Nate was sitting there looking all pensive first and Cole climbed up to join him and “enjoy the moment” too. They are definitely two peas in a pod.
Nate recently did a nonfiction book report on John Muir (famous conservationist & founder of the Sierra Club) so he is trying to appreciate the outdoors here.
“Look Mom! This is my serious face!”:
What a great post. And you sure made the right decision to do this rather than clear the yard or do laundry, etc. You created some great memories for all of you. Not to mention, some good pics!
