Sheryl Crow unveiled a brand new song. The Madden brothers bantered briefly before rocking the house. Ben Harper played along with Tom Morello. Katharine McPhee blew everyone away with her voice and her blondness. Gary Shandling cracked jokes about his dog and celebrity friends of David Arquette turned out in force to support the cause: The “Rock a Little, Feed a Lot ” concert. The concert, held on Tuesday night, benefitted Los Angeles food banks and Feeding America.

fischer_photo_credit_frazer_harrison_getty_images_200910021456032 It was a very moving show. Performances, time and space were donated by the celebrities involved and by the Nokia theater. During the course of the event ConAgra foods made a huge announcement. Isla Fisher and Alanis Morrisette shared the news with the audience that ConAgra had made donation of 10 million dollars to Feeding America, with goal of stamping out childhood hunger. It is the largest corporate donation of its kind, to date. I spoke with ConAgra employees who explained that while there are many programs that exist to feed school children during the school year, the summer months are literally lean ones. Programs like the one they have just announced, aim to fill in the gaps and further their goal of ensuring no child goes hungry.

It was a thrill for me to attend the concert and mingle with the likes of Christina Applegate, Lance Bass, Marcia Cross, Courtney Cox  and others! Lisa Kudrow  made me smile when she gamingly went along with the audience’s demand for a round of “Smelly Cat”.

Sheryl Crow’s performance was the highlight of the evening. She shared a song that she wrote and recorded specifically for Feeding America. You can download the song from iTunes starting next week. All proceeds go to Feeding America.

ConAgra has pledged an additional donation of up to $100,000 via their ConAgra facebook fan page. Become a fan before October 6th and $10 more will go towards ending childhood hunger. In case you don’t think $10 is a lot, consider the fact that Feeding America can feed 7 people for a dollar. That’s dinner for a very huge crowd.

Catch my Whrrl stories on the concert – I posted a ton of pictures live along with my fellow blogging attendees and celebrity Whrrl user Ali Sweeney. Ali was gracious enough to let me jump into her story!
