In honor and recognition of The Heart Truth, the national awareness campaign for women about heart disease, we’re joining in and reminding all women to wear red tomorrow. Your risk of Heart Disease, women’s number one killer, begins to increase between the ages of 40 and 60. You’re never to young to become aware and recognize this danger. Heart disease can begin as young as the teenage years, so its time we all start to act towards better heart health. Here are some things you can do:
-Don’t smoke. If you do, make it a priority to quit.
-Eat heart healthy: A diet low in saturated fats, trans fats and cholesterol.
-Aim for a healthy weight, and work to keep it there.
-Get moving. Get to the gym, go for a walk, run up and down the stairs–what ever it takes, get that heart pumping.
-Visit your doctor. If its been a while since you had your tests run, make an appointment for a good ol’ check-up and have your numbers run: Cholesterol, blood pressure and gluclose are all key numbers to know and understand. Work with your doctor to either keep these numbers healthy, or make them healthier.
