Around these parts, it’s all boy.  With a 6 year old and almost-9-year old, we don’t have many things that are girly or not macho.  So I get kind of excited when they like playing with what I call an “all play,” a game or something that’s good for boys and girls and something I can get into with them!

Our latest “all play” discovery is Art Academy for the Nintendo DS ($29.96, Amazon.com). Because it’s one of the few DS games each of us can play and have a good time with it!

Seeing as my boys love to draw, they were all over this game which teaches you how to layer and color with pencils, pastels and paint virtually.

Lessons walk the user through how to create things like portraits & still life pictures!  It’s pretty neat.  It’s rated E for everyone and is definitely 5+ just in the fact that it requires some reading and decent fine motor skills.

  1. You all have the Picasso gene- so imagine this would be a winner for sure!

  2. Valuable info. Lucky me I discovered your site unintentionally, and I’m shocked why this accident didn’t happened in advance!
    I bookmarked it.
