Years ago… and we’re talking high school or college maybe, I read Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander book. I remember that I had read it when only one book was out. It came out in 1991 and I remember loving it and being frustrated I had to wait for book 2.
I don’t know what happened because I never read book 2 or any of the books that came out but there are 10+ books in the series now and it’s hugely popular! So much so that they have now made it into a TV series that will be debuting on STARZ beginning THIS WEEK on August 9th at 9 pm ET.
If you haven’t read them, the books are a little bit of romance, science fiction (time travel) and historical fiction all wrapped into one. Outlander is about Claire Randall, a British married combat nurse from 1945 who is swept back in time to the year 1743. She gets stuck in time and a romance follows along with Jamie, a Scottish warrior, and there’s a lot of historical drama that’s sure to draw you in.
I was lucky enough to get a chance to have a sneak peek of the first two episodes of the series and I loved them so much that I’m mad at myself for watching because now I’m hooked and have to wait a couple of weeks to see the third episode!
So I won’t give anything away but you have to watch! Let me know what you think. Are you a fan of the books? Will you be tuning in this week? I know it took me all of 10 minutes after I finished episode 2 to go download Outlander to my Kindle – I’m re-reading it so I can get caught up and then start with book 2 and see what happens!
