When I was in college, I remember walking into my local CVS and buying a children’s coloring book and a box of Crayola crayons on a whim. I went back to my dorm room and sat on the floor and colored a picture of some silly cartoon. A friend jokingly made fun of me. It did look a little silly and it wasn’t as exciting as I thought it would be. Cuz hey, coloring in a Bugs Bunny picture meant for a 3-year-old isn’t really all that entertaining.

But what I wanted was to be able to zone out & color something unique because the act of coloring can be so soothing.

Recently, I’ve seen friends post about the trend of adult coloring books that you can purchase. Finally! My 20 year old self was finally going to find what she was looking for!

I went andbought a couple off Amazon. This Adult Coloring Book: Stress Free Patterns ($10.61) is my favorite! I turned off all electronics and sat down at the kitchen table with a couple of colored pencils the other day when this came and just started shading in various colors.

Within minutes, my boys had turned their tv show off (!!)and joined me and they were each coloring a page out of the other book I bought: Creative Coloring Inspirations ($7.28).

Coloring can be reallysoothing and relaxing. When my day is so overstimulated with so many things, something as basicas coloring a book out of a page is clean & simple relaxation.

This was an hour’s worth of coloring. It’s definitely going to take me awhile to get through even one page – I welcome it!

I didn’t realize how long it would take for me to finish one picture!!! I just keep reminding myself that it’s all about the process 😉

    • I know, right? I’ve been working on the one page all week. I’m impressed to that my boys have been sticking with their one picture – they also have just the one they have been working on for days. It’s fun to see it come together!
