A few noteable media releases this fall:
Shelly Duvall’s Faerie Tale Theatre: This one may bring you back to your youth. You and your children can enjoy 26 classic faerie tales as they once appeared in the TV series. You’ll be amazed to see actors in their pre-prime including Mick Jagger, Billy Crystal and Susan Sarandon. Included in the 7-CD set are Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs and Rip Van Winkle. With the DVD set, you’ll also receive a storybook and a 3-in-one game deck featuring images from the series. A fantastic family holiday gift.
Pucca: Spooky Sooga Village: Pucca’s a preschool kung-fu queen, and with her friends she’s into a bit of mischief, tricks and treats this Halloween. Inlcuded in this DVD are 11 episodes for spooky and silly adventures. This is the DVD I’ll be showing at the kids’ Halloween party this year. Coming soon, Pucca: Secret Samurai Santa.
Ballet Shoes: This soon-to-be classic featuring Harry Potter’s Emma Watson is based on a tween novel by Noel Streatfeild, and brought back instant memories of the book I couldn’t put down years ago. Join three orphans, raised as sisters, as their adventures bring them to stage and stardom. A beautiful story of friendship, family and fame. A definite stocking stuffer for your girly-girl.
Storybook Treasures: Where the Wild Things Are: A very popular bedtime tale in our house was recently reintroduced in DVD format. The kids loved seeing the imaginative Max’s tale brought to life on the big screen. The animation keeps in line with Sendack’s award-winning illustrations. Also included are 5 additional Maurice Sendack stories including Chicken Soup with Rice and In the Kitchen.
Jane and the Dragon: A Dragon’s Tale: When Jane insists she’d rather be a knight than a maiden, she needs the help of her buddy dragon to prove her knighthood. A fantastic story of being able to become what isn’t expected, with a message of strong women characters told through humor and bravery, this DVD features the first 5 episodes of the NBC series (which was adapted from Martin Baynton’s children’s books.)
Yes to Running! Bill Harley Live: This CD/DVD set brings a live concert of music and comedy into your living room and car. Bill Harley’s hysterical antics bring laughter and delight to the elementary crowd. Kids will love the humourous stories and songs including “Grownups are Strange”, “Mrs. Ammons and the Boys’ Room” and “The Teachers’ Lounge.”
Beethoven’s Wig 4: Dance Along Symphonies: As with the babyhood trend, new moms and moms-to-be love to fill the air with the classics. Not sure if you’re ready for that switch to classical? We weren’t either. But the Beethoven’s Wig series makes it all the more enjoyable. This volume makes classical music dance worthy. Included are pieces presented for ballet, march, and two-step, not to mention polka and more. And intertwined into the music are fun, child-loving lyrics crafted magically into the pieces.
