So it’s been a couple of weeks since I got the news that I got into the Broad Street Run here in Philadelphia. (See where I freaked out upon receiving the news!) I’ve been slowly training, although not as much as I would have liked.
Some of it has been the weather. It’s just so hard to go several times a week for several miles at the gym. The treadmill sucks; the track sucks. I’m better on the track because at least I’m moving somewhere (the treadmill makes me feel like I’m going to fall off the back) but it’s starting to get old. I haven’t done more than 6 miles on it because it’s pretty much just torture to run in a circle for an hour. (72 circles, to be exact, for 6 miles.)
On top of that, I was having bad knee pain, which thanks to the help of my sister in law I figured out was from my new shoes! While some people seem to love Brooks, they clearly weren’t for me. They sure are cute, right? Cute and not meant for me. I’ve gone back to my old pair of Nikes which have always served me well and my knee pain is now gone again.
I’ll be ordering myself a new pair of the SAME BRAND and SAME MODEL, looks be damned! Because running isn’t about how you look but about getting it done.
9 weeks. I’ve got 9 weeks to get myself ready to run 10 miles and I haven’t gone over 6 yet. Here’s to hoping for warm weather and soon because I really feel like I’ll do better with it once I can get outside.
That is plenty of time! You will rock it! Even if you added 1/2 mile a week to your long run, you would be there in no time. Some half marathon training programs don’t ever have you go more than 10. I’m certain that if you hit 8 a couple of times, you will do the 10 with no worries!!!! Relax and enjoy it. It really should be fun!!! 🙂
Thanks Janice! It’s hard not to have nerves about it but I do feel a little better the more I run. I think once I get a bit longer of a run behind me I’m feel like, “well I did it before so I think I can do it again.” Right now 10 still sounds so long!
Watch those knees!!! I swear by Absorbine jr. It’s a roll on and works instantly!!! Must be good.
they’ve been around since the late 1800’s. Stronger doses are used on horses. I buy mine at Walmart for less than $ 5.00. Your supermarket probably carries it as well.
