Right before I gave birth, I met some lovely ladies from Lansinoh at BlogHer. They graciously sent some products to test out, including their LatchAssist ® nipple everter ($10.69), Soothies by Lansinoh Gel Pads ($9.00 – $12.99) for a package of 2, and HPA Lanolin ($7- $10). Based on my previous latch issues with my other two children, I was excited to see if LatchAssist could help. The tool is designed to temporarily draw out the nipple so it so that it is easier for baby to establish a good latch. I started using this as soon as I was in the recovery room and I’m pleased to say it helped me — I’ve had problems with inverted nipples. It came in a small case and can be used with one hand while your baby is waiting to eat. Before this product, I relied on nipple shields or pumping for a few minutes before I nursed. The LatchAssist is BPA free and I’m happy to say that it worked well for me!
Lansinoh offers two products to help sore and cracked nipples: Soothies by Lansinoh Gel Pads ($9 – 12.99) for a 2 pack and HPA Lanolin ($7- $10). If you recognize the name Soothies, it’s because Lansinoh purchased the Soothies Gel Pads from Puronyx in January 2009. I was really excited to find out that Lansinoh was selling them now, because I had used these non-stop with my daughter, who was born at the end of 2007. They provide instant, cooling relief to breastfeeding mothers with sore nipples. According to the company, “Soothies creates a moist wound healing environment to soothe and protect sore nipples.” These gel pads are reusable, and absorbent. They stick on and can be used and reused for 72 hours. They soothe, relieves and protects sore nipples. I would recommend also using a nursing pad behind them- if you are prone to heavy leaking. If you have light leaking, you’ll be okay using just the Soothies. Lansinoh’s HPA Lanolin is the only topical nipple cream endorsed in the US by La Leche League International. It soothes, heals and protects — does not need to be removed prior to nursing. This pure lanolin contains no preservatives or additives of any kind.
