Weight Watchers has donated one million dollars to Share Our Strength and Action Against Hunger, due to their very successful Lose For Good Campaign!
During Lose For Good, Weight Watchers Members and Online Subscribers lost approximately 4 million pounds and Weight Watchers donated $1 million dollars to Share Our Strength and Action Against Hunger. In addition, during the campaign, Weight Watchers staff voluntarily organized local food drives at over 3,300 locations across the country, resulting in the approximate donation of more than two million pounds of food to local food banks. The Lose-A-Palooza social media action day generated an additional $23,530 for Share Our Strength and Action Against Hunger.
“Lose for Good” Ambassador Jenny McCarthy and Weight Watchers CEO David Kirchhoff kicked off the 2009 “Lose for Good” Campaign at the Arroyo Head Start in Altadena, California. I was involved in Lose for Good as a “Media Champion”, which meant I was at the kick off event. The community garden, designed and installed by Teich Garden Systems, is bringing fresh fruits and vegetables to the children of the Arroyo Head Start Center. The students have already harvestedĀ spinach, lettuce, zucchinis, onions, tomatoes & many other vegetables.
On a personal note, this campaign affected me deeply. It made me aware of how much food my family wasted at home. I started making food on demand for my 4 year old, instead of making two or three choices of dinners for him and praying that one would be eaten. We donated unused food from our pantry – we still had several jars of baby food that we were never going to use. We also became greener by cutting down on buying individual servings of certain kid-friendly foods and bought larger containers, which went out of the houseĀ in snack size BPA-free containers (we love Yubo’s). We also cut down on buying juice boxes for my son’s school lunch — now he takes a reusable bottle.
I hope to be a part of next year’s Lose for Good Campaign – I love that the members of Weight Watchers were able to do so much good to fight hunger!
