bobstroller.jpgI’m a slacker when it comes to group fitness. For years I have been watching the Stroller Strides group working out on my corner. I’ve watched it mushroom (as I drove by en route to my morning Starbucks coffee fix) from a small handful of moms to a veritable posse of close to fifty women, almost all of them pushing identical red Stroller Strides Special Edition Strollers from Bob.
Leave it to me to notice the strollers above all else. Because if anything is going to motivate me to work out, it’s a stroller. Jogging Strollers are to me, what a shiny new notebook is to a student starting the semester. All promise. All fresh start. And all good intentions. So while September/Back-to-School is my office organization time, January/New Year’s is the time to get my butt in gear!
I’ve tried dozens of jogging/all terrian/fitness oriented strollers in the past. Only to find that few of them have truly delivered. I was starting to think that they were all the same – fine to push with a little baby in them, but get a kid over 30lbs in them and you will fast learn the true meaning of the word “schlep”. It’s enough to make a mom stay home! However, the sheer number of happy, smiling, buff women in my hood pushing bigger kids in a Bob (or a Bob Duallie) made me want to give it a try.
I’m so glad we got to see what all the fuss is about. The Bob Stroller Strides Stroller is a joy to push and a total keeper. This spring you may even see me walking to get my coffee. Imagine!
Continue reading for slideshow, video and the specifics about why I love the Bob Stroller Strides Edition Stroller:

The Seat:
The seat of the Bob Stroller Strides Edition Stroller is oversized, well padded, and comfortable for children from about 6 months (when they can support their own head) on up to about 5 years. The seat is wide and tall. My exceptionally tall 4 year old son was completely comfy sitting in it, as was my 9 month old. We did not test the insert that Bob makes for infants, but if you are looking for a stroller to use with a smaller baby, know that this is an option. We all loved that there are compartments on either side of the seat that store a drink or other small items. The seat is made from a durable and weather resistant fabric. Inserts (including a fuzzy sheepskin-like one) are available to make the seat even plusher.
The Bob Stroller Strides Edition has a very generous hood that provides great sun coverage. There is a large parent peekaboo window and an ingenious pull string that lets you pull back the hood in a fast, silent motion, without breaking your stride. Adjusting the seat back is accomplished by lengthening and shortening two buckles. It lets you get the angle just right for you and your child, as there are no preset positions. The fabric on the seat back also adjusts a little at the top of the seat to accomodate a taller child.
The Bob Stroller Stides Edition has a lot of excellent storage for a fitness stroller. There is a generous under seat basket, storage on the back of the seat and storage for a bottle or other small item on either side of the child’s seat. It’s enough room to carry a bag of groceries and then some. Up near the handle of the stroller there is a console with a cup holder and a zipped compartment. Included with the Stroller Strides version of the Bob are two sets of exercise bands and a complete Stroller Strides Workout guide. You can do this workout on your own, or sign up with a group near you.
The Push:
Here’s where the Bob blows the competition away. The Stroller Strides Stroller (which is essentially a tricked out console & exercise band-equipped version of the regular Revolution, in case you were wondering) is a dream come true to push on all sorts of terrain. On both local trails and hardtop, it is one the smoothest, easiest-to-steer strollers I’ve ever tested.
The Frame/Fold:
This stroller is not exactly lightweight at 24 lbs but it is not exactly a beast either. It’s solid as a rock and the fold is exceptionally fast and easy to accomplish. Good thing. Wrestling with a hard to fold stroller is not my preferred way to burn calories! The fold is sufficiently compact to make this an excellent daytrip stroller as well. It should fit in the back of most cars, even without removing the wheels (a possibility for fitting the stroller into smaller vehicles). It’s a great choice for all day outings.

  3. I have had the single Bob Stroller Strides for 2 1/2 years and loved it so much we just bought the double (duallie) version. Ciaran is right- they are worth every penny! I love the Stroller Strides version because not many Bob owners know about it. I can’t tell you how many navy or orange Bob duallies we pass on the Strand (ocean bike path). Our S.S. version turns heads all the time because it is “rare” among Bobs!

  4. Stroller Strides and BOB strollers go hand in hand. After participating in Stroller Strides classes for 3 years I decided to sell BOB strollers to all of our work-out mommies. It is a great stroller that is very versatile. Perfect for running, walking or strolling. Visit for all of your BOB stroller needs. We will get you moving in 2009 with a stroller that is so easy to work-out behind you want to get out and move.

  5. Love my Bob and love my Stroller Strides. Been with both for 2 years now and wouldn’t give either of them up!
